Term 1 Newsletter - October 2023

Our new students have settled in and are shining in their respective lessons and activities, a huge thank you to all our staff and pupils for supporting the newest members of our community and making them feel welcome as they build confidence in their new classes.  As you can see from the below photos, it has been a busy, productive and hugely fun term … mind you, it did get just a little scary at the end! (well, it was the Halloween Disco!!)

Year 3 pupils have been studying the Stone Age.  As part of the topic they have followed written instructions to make sculptures of woolly mammoths – their next step is to write their own set of instructions on ‘How to wash a woolly mammoth”!  Great work everyone .. although I think we’re going to need a bigger water play area!

We have imbedded Forest School across our key stages to the delight of our pupils.  Using natural spaces as classrooms and outdoor activities to learn personal, social and technical skills, pupils have a real hands-on learning experience whilst also exploring the natural environment.

Year 5 Forest School spent a hugely enjoyable afternoon over in the grounds of Wilmington Grammar School for Boys creating our graffiti masterpieces and practising our weaving skills!  We have been learning about graffiti art in class in preparation for making our own class ‘graffiti wall’ using handmade stencils, fabric pens .. and a whole load of imagination!  Using an existing perimeter fence as a frame. Pupils foraged for a range of long flexible sticks then worked together to thread them through the fence creating a natural woven element to the fence.

Our Year 4 Pupils have been broadening their French vocabulary as we learned about the seasons - their pronunciation was excellent!  Pupils worked in pairs to practice their new words, forming sentences and translating phrases.  Bravo à tous!

Reception went on their very own 'Bear hunt.' Everybody pulled on their wellies and explored the outdoor area. We recreated the story as we stomped around the field. We then had to locate the different bears which were hidden outside. Finally, Miss Ullah gave us each a bear to look after. We had to carefully hold it as we went around the field collecting leaves, flowers etc... to make a nice, cosy bed for the bear. What a beautiful day.....and we weren't scared!!

Year 6 chefs visited the Wilmington Grammar Schools to take part in a food and nutrition practical lesson.  Pupils first learned how to safely hold and use a knife to cut and finely chop their onion before getting VERY hands-on with their ingredients to form burger patties.  The pupils enjoyed their lesson immensely (and the Wilmington Grammar students were equally excited to have them on site!)  Great work class, you worked independently, following instructions from your recipe and learned valuable new skills!
